Migraine Headaches: A Safe Non-invasive Approach to Treatment

What Causes Migraines?

If you are currently dealing with migraine headaches you know all too well the classic symptoms of pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.  A few migraine suffers also experience numbness, tingling, clumsiness, visual disturbances, or have trouble communicating.

The medical treatment is often limited to over the counter medications or specialized drugs designed to constrict the blood vessels.  While migraine sufferers can often find relief with these treatments the side effects are often undesirable and can cause serious side effects.

What exactly triggers a migraine?  Well they can be triggered by a number of things including excessive light and sound, stress, fatigue, hormonal changes, diet, changes in weather, caffeine, head trauma, cigarette smoke, neck movements, and even an improper fitting pillow.  However, it is important to understand that these various “triggers” do not cause migraine headaches.

Dr. Seymour Diamond, Executive Director of the National Headache Foundation, has announced that new imaging techniques now allow scientists to identify what they believe to be a cause of migraines: a malfunctioning brain stem. When the brain stem, located near the top of the neck malfunctions, it increases the swelling of blood vessels surrounding the brain, setting up a chain reaction that results in a migraine headache.

Migraines and Atlas Orthogonal

A misalignment in the upper part of the neck can affect the function of the brain stem.  This in turn can cause migraines to develop.  A misalignment in the upper neck can occur from many things which include:  whiplash from a car accident, sports injuries, physical or emotional stress, falls, birth trauma, and work related injuries to name a few.

Head Neck Alignment

Head Neck Alignment

How do we correct this misalignment?  Specialized 3 dimensional digital x-rays are taken and analyzed via a computer software program.  This program gives us the specific coordinates needed to realign the upper neck.

Does it hurt? Or is there any twisting, turning, or popping of the neck?  Absolutely not!  The coordinates are put into a specialized adjusting instrument that uses a percussive sound wave to realign a tiny bone called the atlas which helps to restore the alignment of the upper neck.  You hardly feel a thing!

Patient testimonials

I have had migraines, neck pain, hip pain, and ankle pain for many years. As a 60 year old person I felt that was just part of getting older. Three years ago when I started to see Dr. Reed for treatments, I was hopeful for some relief, but I did not expect such amazing results! I hardly ever have migraines now and when I do, an adjustment brings almost instant relief. The pain I have in my neck, hip, and ankle seldom bothers me and an adjustment always helps. I used to wake up many times a night because of pain, but now I sleep soundly most nights. Dr. Reed is kind, compassionate, patient, and very dedicated to his profession. Your life will change with treatment from him I’m proof!

– Lisa W.

The upper cervical treatment I received with Dr. Reed has been life changing.  After a car accident when I was 17, I have had pain and stiffness in my entire back. I am now 36 and was told by several physicians that there was nothing that could help me. I had a curvature of the spine and had trouble lifting my children and even getting up off the floor. After just one Atlas Orthogonal treatment, I could feel my posture and range of motion improve. After my second treatment, I was able to get off the floor without difficulty and my energy level has tripled. I am now more motivated to play with my children and have even began doing yoga. This was all unthinkable before visiting Dr. Reed. My husband can see a huge difference in the way I move and also the way I look. He says I look thinner (most likely due to better posture) and that my skin is glowing (most likely because of improved circulation). I cannot stress enough what a miracle this has been for me and my family!

Thank you so much for making this as easy as it can be. You guys keep up the great hospitality and communication. You guys are just awesome. I recommend anyone who’s having problems and like myself don’t want drugs to feel better this is the way to go. Thank you to all.

I was pleased to know that the Dr. was going to take the time to look at my X-rays and carefully plan my treatment.
